The Department of Pathology is a School of Medicine department located on Grand Blvd. approximately one mile south of the main Saint Louis University campus. The Pathology Department occupies one floor of Saint Louis University Hospital and also has research facilities in the School of Medicine, Doisy Research Center, and in Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
The Department of Pathology faculty work closely with graduate students, medical students and residents in the department to assist them in acquiring the requisite academic background and practical laboratory skills for successful research careers in academics, industry, medicine or government. Commensurate with these objectives, excellent research facilities are available for student use. Facilities include confocal microscope image analysis laboratory, transmission and scanning electron microscopes, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, tissue culture labs, darkrooms, video image analysis, and a lab in addition to a wide range of centrifuges, lyophilizers, scintillation and gamma counters, HPLCs, GCs etc and access to a hybridoma laboratory, transgenic mouse facility, and both an amino acid microsequencer and DNA sequencing facilities. Excellent library facilities are available. Departmental faculty maintain research collaborations with colleagues in the academic and industrial community which further broadens opportunities and exposure to technical skills and research expertise for graduate students. The department stresses close interactions among student, mentor and graduate steering committee to foster the intellectual and scientific growth of each student.
