Dr. Ryerse, Professor of Pathology, received his training in microscopy at the University of Western Ontario and at the University of California, Irvine. He has been at Saint Louis University Medical School since 1980. In addition to directing the research microscopy and confocal microscopy cores, he participates in the PhD graduate program, lecturing in cell biology, developmental biology, pathology and microscopy. Much of his time is spent in collaborative research projects, providing the microscopy for the research projects of colleagues at Saint Louis University and at other institutions and private research companies. Ms. Nagel has over 30 years of experience in light and electron microscopy, having joined Saint Louis University School of Medicine in the Department of Pathology in 1981 as a Research Assistant in Dr. Jan Ryerse’s lab. She has also worked for 7 years in the Department of Ophthalmology, specializing in LM and EM of rodent retina.

Her expertise includes sectioning thin and semi-thin plastic sections, paraffin and cryo sectioning, cryo-ultramicrotomy, immuno-fluorescent staining and immunogold labeling.

Ms. Rickard has 7 years experience with confocal microscopy. She is currently an Assistant Research Professor at Saint Louis University in the Department of Pathology.

Research interests include the disease process in interstitial cystitis with special emphasis on the urothelial barrier of the bladder wall and technical abilities includes immuno-confocal microscopy and live cell imaging.

Ms. Roth has worked in the Core for three years.   She is skilled in tissue preparation and sectioning paraffin, plastic, and cryosections for histology, as well as immunohistochemistry, both HRP and fluorescence experiments.
