Saint Louis University School of Medicine's Division of Geriatric Medicine offers integrated gerontological and geriatric programs and education that improve older adult care across the region.

Advancing Healthy Aging

The Division of Geriatric Medicine is a driving force behind Saint Louis University School of Medicine's aging initiatives. U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and SLU School of Medicine geriatric programs among the best in the nation. 

Division specialists work on interdisciplinary teams to offer a wide range of clinical services, including:

  • Inpatient geriatric consultation and acute care
  • Home-visit programs, such as screenings and care for older adults who are chronically ill
  • Outpatient comprehensive geriatric assessment
  • Specialty clinics for older adults who live in high-need communities and have developmental disabilities

The division also has access to well-equipped laboratories in SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital and the VA St. Louis Healthcare System.

In addition to offering comprehensive fellowship training, the division houses Saint Louis University's Gateway Geriatric Education Center (GEC), which provides students, professionals and caregivers a wide range of resources for older adult care, including:

Division physicians also regularly partner with University faculty and staff on projects for the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), a federal initiative that works to improve health outcomes for older adults by building a workforce equipped to provide age-friendly, dementia-friendly care.
